My deeply personal life experiences have always been at the forefront of my art practice. I strive to convey my strong emotions which can range from my deepest anxieties to my yearning for home and distaste for change in my life. Capturing these feelings and experiences is an almost therapeutic experience. I am able to revisit old memories and forgotten moments in my life with my art- delving into the rich textures and colors of the farmland that surrounded me in my youth. My excitement for capturing these experiences is magnified by my suppressed emotions which are now finally resurfacing. Growing up and feeling constantly at odds with the people around me, but even more so at odds with myself and my sense of being was only amplified as I aged and began to experience more autonomy in my life. I also aim to delve deeper into my own self-perception and how growing up shaped me into who I am currently.
Coming from a small northern California town and growing up surrounded by agriculture, I use those scenic and often idealized scenes to visualize my experiences. I find myself drawn to textures through the use of mixed mediums. With these textural nuances in my work, one should look for different meanings in the different materials I use. My work visualizes my own personal human experiences growing up, tied together with the main setting of my early life. Through my work, I am able to capture the agricultural landscape that surrounded me in my youth, as well as more personal experiences such as the sports I played growing up, which can be seen with my use of recycled pieces of my own clothing and aquatic imagery.Through the lens of youth and what it means to grow up, my work is a form of self-discovery where I can finally release and feel every memory and in turn, the emotions that are intertwined with those memories.
